Lakewood, OH — Project White Butterfly has launched a compassionate initiative called “Community Safe Space,” aimed at providing support and solidarity for individuals and families impacted by substance use. This monthly supportive social gathering takes place on the first Sunday of each month at the Lakewood Family YMCA, located at 16915 Detroit Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107.
The Community Safe Space was created in response to a recognized need for a supportive environment where people can openly discuss their experiences and challenges related to substance use without fear of judgment. The initiative is designed to offer education, support, empowerment, and a renewal of hope to those affected by substance use within their families or communities.
Project White Butterfly, a nonprofit organization, has been at the forefront of addressing substance use issues through various community engagement programs. Their efforts include distributing Project White Butterfly cards that provide hope, resources, and a reminder that support is available. The organization has successfully distributed over 65,000 cards worldwide, leading many individuals to seek treatment and support.
Community Safe Space meetings aim to foster transparency and provide education on healthy recovery practices. Despite facing challenges with attendance, the organization remains committed to offering this vital support to the community. The meetings offer a platform for individuals to share their stories, learn from each other, and receive encouragement from peers who understand their struggles.
