December 19, 2024 — In the heart of Cleveland, a beacon of hope shines through the efforts of Nikki Matlus and her nonprofit organization, Operation Lean On Me. Established three years ago, this initiative aims to connect individuals and families in Northeast Ohio with essential resources to alleviate various forms of stress, including financial hardships, food insecurity, and access to mental health services.
Matlus, a substance abuse counselor, was inspired to start the nonprofit based on her own experiences growing up in a poverty-stricken neighborhood. Witnessing the challenges of drugs, violence, and economic instability, she felt a profound calling to give back to her community. “I always feel like going back into the community—that’s what I’m meant to do,” Matlus shared.
Operation Lean On Me collaborates with local businesses and community members to fundraise and provide goods and services to those in need. Recently, the organization partnered with Mentors4Minorities to deliver meals to children in a local juvenile detention center, exemplifying their commitment to addressing diverse community needs.
Through these efforts, Operation Lean On Me not only meets immediate needs but also fosters a sense of community and support, embodying the spirit of giving and resilience in Northeast Ohio.
