SUMMIT COUNTY, OH — Conservative businessman Kevin Coughlin announced his candidacy for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District on Tuesday, setting up a rematch against incumbent Democrat Emilia Sykes.
Coughlin criticized Sykes’ early second-term voting record, specifically highlighting her votes regarding government funding and what he characterized as missed opportunities to bring NASA headquarters and jobs to Northeast Ohio.
“We need a Member of Congress who will stand with President Trump to fight for our community, our safety, and to provide reliable leadership with real solutions,” Coughlin said in his announcement.
The Republican challenger has secured campaign co-chairs from three counties within the district: Summit County Republican Party Chair Bryan Williams, Stark County Republican Party Chair Janet Weir Creighton, and Portage County Republican Party Chair Amanda Suffecool.
Coughlin previously ran against Sykes in 2024 in what was described as a highly competitive race. His campaign is emphasizing his bipartisan legislative accomplishments, including authoring Ohio’s Amber Alert system and closing what he termed a “dangerous domestic violence loophole.”
His campaign platform focuses on addressing rising costs, border security, and neighborhood safety. More information is available at kevincoughlin.com.
