Haydn Paul drove in four runs on two hits to lead Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights past Hudson 14-11 on Friday. Paul singled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the second inning, scoring two.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights collected 14 hits and Hudson had 11 in the high-scoring affair.
Hudson got on the board in the first inning after Shawna Baylor hit a solo home run to center field.
A single by Paul gave Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first.
Hudson flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Eva Masiella that drove in two.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to an error, a double by Paul, and a single by Brooke Becker.
A single by Laura Garey gave Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights the lead, 7-6, in the bottom of the third.
Corinne Stearns grounded into a fielder’s choice, which helped Hudson tie the game at seven in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights broke up the tie when Madison Hetrick was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Then an error followed to extend the lead to 10-7.
Hudson tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Bailey Deutsch, an error, and a line out by Stearns.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Garey scored after tagging up, Haylie Lambes grounded out, Gracie Smith singled to center field, and Hetrick doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Lambes earned the win for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. The pitcher allowed three hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking three. Claire Eland took the loss for Hudson. The hurler went six innings, surrendering 14 runs (three earned) on 14 hits, striking out three and walking three. Kirra Smeal started in the circle for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out one and walking five.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights piled up 14 hits in the game. Garey and Becker each collected three hits for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. Maddie Nyce and Morgan Ritchie each collected multiple hits for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. Paul stole two bases.
Hudson amassed 11 hits in the game. Stearns provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Hudson with three runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-5 on the day. Deutsch went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Hudson in hits. Baylor and Eland each collected multiple hits for Hudson. Hudson had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Baylor, Kylie Smith, and Lily Harrington led the team with two free passes each.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights will travel to Howland for their next game on Saturday.
