Man Arrested After Severing Kitten Tails in Green Dispute

A 57-year-old man was arrested on April 11 in Green after allegedly cutting the tails off three newborn kittens during a dispute with a female resident.

Deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to East Turkeyfoot Lake Road for reports of a suspicious person and verbal dispute. Upon arrival, they identified a man living in a van on the property.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident began with a verbal altercation between the man and a female resident. After the woman retreated to a detached garage, the man allegedly sent text messages threatening to harm kittens that were born nine days prior to the incident.

“He threatened to cut the tails off the newborn kittens and the mother of the kittens,” a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

Shortly after sending the messages, the man reportedly threw a container at the female resident which contained the severed tails of three kittens.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the suspect in his van and ordered him to exit the vehicle. As he complied, deputies observed an object in his hand, which he threw aside. The item was later identified as a loaded .45 caliber pistol.

Deputies took the man into custody and charged him with Animal Cruelty, a fourth-degree felony. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

The injured kittens were transported to a local veterinarian by Sheriff’s Office personnel and are currently recovering from their injuries.
