Ben & Jerry’s is expanding its presence in Northeast Ohio with plans to open its fourth scoop shop in the state and its second in the Greater Cleveland area. The popular ice cream chain has set its sights on a prime location at 1422 Euclid Avenue in the historic Playhouse Square district.
The new store will be situated between Starbucks and the arched entrance to the 124-year-old, 16-story Hanna Building, in what was initially marketed as a multi-tenant space fronting Euclid Avenue. This marks a significant addition to Cleveland’s downtown entertainment district, bringing the Vermont-based premium ice cream brand closer to theater-goers and downtown residents.
According to permit applications submitted to the city by HSB Architects + Engineers of Cleveland, the company plans to invest approximately $300,000 in interior renovations to transform the 1,747-square-foot space into its signature colorful ice cream shop.
This new location adds to Ben & Jerry’s existing Cleveland-area presence, with its other local shop operating at 20650 John Carroll Blvd. in suburban University Heights.
The addition of Ben & Jerry’s to Playhouse Square continues the trend of national retailers investing in Cleveland’s downtown corridor, potentially bringing increased foot traffic to the theater district.
City officials have not yet announced an expected opening date for the new location, but construction permits suggest preparations are actively underway for the shop’s debut.
