Great Lakes Mall Sale Plans Proceed as Operations Continue Normally

The City of Mentor’s statement about Washington Prime Group’s plans to sell Great Lakes Mall remains the most recent official update, released yesterday. There is currently no new information regarding when the sale will take place or the disposition process.

Mall Operations Continuing Amid Sale Preparations

Despite the pending sale, Great Lakes Mall continues to operate normally with regular mall hours. The mall’s website shows active programming including seasonal events like Easter Bunny photos running through April 19, as well as ongoing community activities such as monthly health screenings.

Redevelopment Possibilities Still Being Discussed

Industry experts maintain their predictions about the mall’s future, with real estate professional Chris Salata suggesting the property could be repurposed as a light industrial center with distribution capabilities or potentially converted to residential use following the sale.

Recent Development on Former Mall Property

In a recent development showing ongoing changes to the mall property, February 2025 saw the demolition of the former Sears Auto Center to make way for the new Mentor Fire Station #3, which is scheduled to open in early 2026.

Mall Background and Current Status

Great Lakes Mall remains a significant retail destination in Northeast Ohio, positioned in Mentor along State Road 20 between Route 2 and I-90. It continues to serve as the only regional mall in Lake County, with the nearest comparable shopping center located 75 miles away across the Pennsylvania border.
