Garfield Heights Council Approves New Home Repair Grant Program

Meeting Highlights

The Garfield Heights City Council met on April 28, 2025, with all council members present. The meeting included the passage of several ordinances and resolutions, along with updates from city officials and council members.

Key Legislation Approved

  • Ordinance 36-2025: Authorized participation in ODOT’s road salt purchasing program for the 2025-2026 season, requesting 4,500 tons of salt.
  • Ordinance 37-2025: Approved revisions to the city’s codified ordinances to align with current state law.
  • Ordinance 38-2025: Authorized participation in the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District program to secure funding for a medium-duty truck purchase.
  • Ordinance 39-2025: Approved an agreement with ThenDesign Architecture for planning services for the Garfield Heights Police Station, not to exceed $20,000.
  • Ordinance 40-2025: Approved a collective bargaining agreement with the FOP Lodge 67 (Sergeants and above) for 2025-2027.
  • Ordinance 41-2025: Authorized an agreement with CXT, Inc. for a precast concrete restroom facility at Frank J. Debelak Recreation Area, costing approximately $91,318.
  • Resolution 19-2025: Approved the Home Repair Assistance Grant Program to help residents facing financial hardships make necessary home repairs.
  • Resolution 20-2025: Honored Matthew Thompson for winning the “Stop the Hate” Teacher of the Year Award from the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage.

Community Updates

  • The library is seeking volunteers for their Friends of the Library board.
  • Ward 2 Community Club will meet May 17th at the Garfield Heights Library from 4-5 PM.
  • A lupus awareness event will be held on May 24th.
  • Ward 7 block watch will meet at St. Monica’s on May 29th.
  • A human trafficking and community safety training will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 1-4 PM at Kingdom Christian Assembly.

Council Comments

Council members expressed appreciation for community engagement and reminded residents to maintain properties by cutting grass and returning trash bins from curbs. Several council members also discussed upcoming community events in their respective wards.

The next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025, at 7 PM.
