Boston Heights Unveils Eight Professional Pickleball Courts

Ribbon-cutting ceremony set for Oct. 4 at Matthews Thomas Park

Boston Heights will unveil eight brand-new pickleball courts at Matthews Thomas Park on Saturday, Oct. 4. Mayor Ron Antal said the courts will be among the finest professional courts in Northeast Ohio, representing the village’s commitment to health, recreation and community connection. The unveiling coincides with the Annual Fall Festival from 1-4 p.m. at the same location.

Valley Fire Department Hosts Annual Steak Fry

Adult-only fundraiser supports local firefighters

The Valley Firefighters Association will host its annual Steak Fry and Chinese Raffle on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5-11 p.m. at Fire Station 2. The department has responded to 585 emergency calls year to date.

Boston Heights’ Annual Fall Festival returns Saturday, Oct. 4, from 1-4 p.m. at Matthews Thomas Park. The event features food, live music, face painting, hayrides, a log-sawing contest and scavenger hunt. The celebration coincides with the unveiling of eight new pickleball courts at the park.

Nov. 1 event showcases homemade goods at fire station

The Annual Craft Show takes place Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Fire Station. Local artisans will showcase homemade baked goods, knits, seasonal décor, jewelry, woodwork and unique gifts. The event highlights regional creativity and offers holiday shopping opportunities.

Five Candidates Compete for Four Council Seats

Election Day set for Nov. 4 at Village Hall

Boston Heights voters will choose four council members from five candidates on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Polls open 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at Village Hall. Candidates include Bob Bartko, Seth Wells, Chris Fenn, Aleksandra Chetyrkina and Susan Wells. Mayor Ron Antal encouraged residents to get to know each candidate before voting.

Village Adopts Overnight Parking Ban

New ordinance prohibits street parking midnight to 5 a.m.

Boston Heights adopted an ordinance prohibiting overnight parking on public and private streets between midnight and 5 a.m. The measure ensures roads remain clear for emergency vehicles, snow removal and street cleaning. Temporary permits available through the Police Department for special situations. Violations result in fines starting at $10 within 72 hours, increasing to $50, with possible towing.

Police Department Adds Ford F-150 Responder to Fleet

Grant funding covered over half the cost of new patrol vehicle

The Boston Heights Police Department added a Ford F-150 Responder to its patrol fleet in August. A grant through Summit County Sheriff’s Office funded over half the vehicle’s cost. The pickup truck features increased safety and durability with a rollout storage system for additional equipment. Chief Chad McArdle reports no incidents since Wendy’s restaurant opened four months ago.

Fall Leaf Collection Begins Oct. 20

Road Department announces guidelines for curbside pickup

Boston Heights begins leaf collection Monday, Oct. 20, running through Dec. 1. Residents must rake leaves to curb or roadside in long lines rather than large piles. Do not rake toward mailboxes, poles, trees or decorations. Bagged leaves not accepted. No grass clippings or yard waste permitted. The Road Department asks drivers to slow down when crews work alongside roadways.

Village Plans Combined Police-Fire Safety Center

DS Architectural chosen as design firm for new facility

Boston Heights continues planning for a combined Police and Fire Safety Center. Village Council selected DS Architectural as the architect/engineering firm. The company conducts site surveys and interviews with department heads to design a facility for current needs and the next 15-20 years. The design will blend with existing fire stations’ mid-century modern architecture.

Matthews Thomas Park Adds New Amenities

Eagle Scout project, lending library enhance visitor experience

Matthews Thomas Park added several amenities including a lending library donated by Deanna Fenn, an information kiosk constructed as an Eagle Scout project by Daniel Keaveny, and a pet waste station installed by the Road Department. The Park Advisory Board provides gardening tips for fall including establishing new lawns, planting trees and preparing spring bulbs.
