Press Release: You Lucky Dog! Adoption Event, Reduced Fees, and Animal Control Services

Families across Nordonia Hills and surrounding areas can adopt fully vetted dogs for just $28 during the March “You Lucky Dog!” event.

Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro has announced the “You Lucky Dog!” adoption event, offering reduced adoption fees of $28 throughout March 2026 at Summit County Animal Control. This initiative aims to connect adoptable dogs with forever homes by providing fully vetted, microchipped, and licensed pets to local families at a significant discount.

AKRON, Ohio – Summit County Animal Control is turning “luck” into reality for local pets this month. While many lost dogs find their way back to their owners each week, dozens of others remain at the facility waiting for a second chance. To address this, County Executive Ilene Shapiro is launching the “You Lucky Dog!” adoption event to streamline the process for residents looking to add a furry member to their family.

Affordable Adoption Costs During the You Lucky Dog! Adoption Event

Finding a new best friend is more accessible than ever this month. From March 3 through March 31, 2026, the standard adoption fee of $94 has been slashed to just $28. This promotional price is designed to lower the barrier for adoption while ensuring the animals go to prepared and loving homes.

Executive Shapiro noted that while reunions are a primary goal of the facility, the ultimate mission is ensuring every dog in the county has a safe place to sleep. By reducing the financial burden on adopters, the county hopes to see a record number of successful placements during the “You Lucky Dog!” adoption event.

Comprehensive Care and Vet Services Included

Every pet adopted through Summit County Animal Control receives high-quality medical attention before heading to their new home. The $28 fee is all-inclusive, covering a range of services that would typically cost hundreds of dollars at a private clinic. All adoptable dogs are:

  • Fully Vetted: Includes bloodwork, flea treatments, and intestinal de-worming.

  • Preventative Care: All necessary vaccinations are up to date.

  • Spayed or Neutered: Surgery is completed prior to adoption.

  • Microchipped: For permanent identification and safety.

  • Licensed: A 2026 Summit County Dog License is included in the cost.
