Macedonia police say the man ran into the path of an oncoming SUV that had the green light A pedestrian was seriously injured Friday night after crossing into the path of an SUV on State Route 82 in Macedonia, according to a crash report from Macedonia Police. The crash happened around 9:08 p.m. July 3 at the intersection of Route 82 and South Freeway Drive. Officers arrived within minutes and cleared the scene by 10:19 p.m. What the report says happened A white 2021 Chevrolet Equinox was heading west on Route 82 when the pedestrian ran across the roadway and was struck. The report states the SUV had the green light and the right of way. The pedestrian came to rest roughly 50 feet from the point of impact. Investigators measured 31.9 feet from the point of impact to where the SUV stopped. Both the posted speed and the recorded speed for the SUV were listed at 25 mph. Two witnesses gave similar accounts. Each was waiting to turn left onto South Freeway Drive and told officers that eastbound and westbound traffic had the green light when the pedestrian moved into the roadway. Injuries and response The pedestrian, a 46 year old Bedford man, suffered suspected serious injuries. Macedonia Fire transported him to Akron City hospital for treatment. The driver of the SUV, a 52 year old Twinsburg man, reported no injuries. Photos from the scene show front end damage to the Equinox, including a cracked windshield, dented hood and damaged grille. The road was wet at the time, and the report notes the roadway was dark but lit. Condition update Asked whether there was any update on the pedestrian’s condition this morning, Macedonia Police said, “No, we have no further information at this time.”
