One Dead, One Injured After Early Morning Crash on Fairmount Boulevard

A early morning crash on Fairmount Boulevard near Brainard Road left one person dead and another hospitalized after a third motorist struck two people who had stopped to assist a disabled vehicle. Pepper Pike Police and Fire Departments responded at approximately 2:48 a.m. July 18 to find three vehicles involved in the crash. Two adults, a male and a female, were found between two of the vehicles with serious injuries. Life-Saving Measures Taken at Scene First responders performed life-saving measures on both victims. The female was transported by the Pepper Pike Fire Department and is currently in stable condition. The male succumbed to his injuries on scene. How the Crash Unfolded According to the initial investigation, the first vehicle had been disabled with a flat tire. The driver remained on scene and called for roadside assistance. Two adults arrived to help and parked in front of the disabled vehicle. While the two good Samaritans worked near the trunk of the disabled vehicle, a third motorist struck them and the vehicle they had stopped to assist. Arrest Made The third motorist was placed under arrest at the scene. Charges include Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Failure to Maintain an Assured Clear Distance Ahead. The City of Pepper Pike extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of both victims.
