Macedonia Police Reports: Woman Injured by Falling Tree, Dog Bite at Kennel, Family Violence Arrest

Domestic Violence and Assault July 22 - Family Disturbance Leads to Multiple Charges Matthew Joseph Wloszek was arrested on domestic violence and assault charges following a violent altercation with family members on Apache Run. The incident began when family members confronted the heavily intoxicated suspect about spending family money without permission after his girlfriend delivered a disorderly conduct citation from Northfield Village Police. When his mother confronted him about the money, the suspect shouted profanities and became aggressive. His sister attempted to intervene to protect their mother, who has serious health issues. The suspect pushed his sister against the front door and into the kitchen counter, where she struck a coffee maker and water jug. He grabbed and twisted her arm, causing her to believe it was broken. The suspect also punched his brother-in-law in the head with a closed fist, leaving visible red marks and scratches. When his father returned home, the suspect struck him on the head with an open hand. All three victims required medical treatment at Cleveland Clinic, where the sister received CT scans and X-rays for arm swelling. Wloszek was charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of assault. July 20 - Domestic Dispute Results in Assault Report A domestic dispute on Atterbury Drive resulted in an assault report after a man was punched in the mouth by his ex-girlfriend during an argument while he was visiting his children. The victim declined to press charges but his ex-wife requested the woman be trespassed from the property. Police attempted to contact the woman but were unable to reach her after leaving a voicemail. July 16 - Pepper Spray Attack on Shepard Road Paul Joseph Gates was arrested for assault and criminal damaging after pepper spraying three people and damaging property during a confrontation. The incident occurred when his ex-girlfriend arrived with two friends to return vehicle keys and retrieve her cell phone. Gates immediately began striking the driver with closed fists as the vehicle pulled into the driveway. When his ex-girlfriend tried to help, her keys containing pepper spray were knocked from her hand. Gates obtained the pepper spray and sprayed all three occupants of the vehicle. During the struggle, he grabbed the woman's Nissan key from the ignition and turned it, damaging the key fob so the vehicle would not start. He also threw her phone on the floorboard, cracking the screen. Video footage from one of the victims clearly showed the assault. All three victims required medical attention from EMS and recovered from their injuries. The damaged vehicle required a $225 tow to Barberton. Gates was charged with three counts of assault and two counts of criminal damaging. July 10 - Aggravated Menacing Report Documented A Cleveland man reported being threatened during an encounter at a Park Ledge Drive residence. The victim reported that during a consensual encounter, the suspect made threatening statements including death threats and prevented him from leaving. The victim chose not to press charges but requested the incident be documented for his safety. Emergency Response and Property Issues July 14 - Dog Bite at Local Kennel A Kentucky man reported being bitten by a Cane Corso at a kennel on East Highland Road during a July 8 incident. The victim sought medical treatment at University Hospital and was prescribed antibiotics. Police are investigating and attempting to contact the dog's owner. July 6 - Tree Branch Injures Woman Officers assisted Macedonia Fire Department after a large tree branch fell on a woman in her backyard on Driftwood Lane. The victim was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained when the heavy limb struck her while she was in her yard. Emergency responders worked to safely remove the branch and provide medical care before transport. July 5 - Property Damage from Tree Work A resident reported property damage after tree removal work at a neighboring property caused debris to fall onto his generator. The case was referred to the Macedonia Building Department for code violations. July 4 - Domestic Dispute Assistance Macedonia officers assisted Twinsburg Police with a verbal domestic dispute involving a mother and son that occurred while they were traveling through the city. Animal Control Issues July 16 - Repeat Dog at Large Violations Richard D. Hohne was issued citations for animals running at large and failure to register his dog after neighbors reported the animal was again loose in the neighborhood crossing Harper Lane and roaming between properties. A neighbor filed the complaint after receiving photos from a witness showing the dog in multiple yards. This marked the second offense for the same violations within four days, elevating the charges to fourth-degree misdemeanors.
