Summit County Sees Competitive Races as 200+ Candidates File for November Election

More than 200 candidates have submitted petitions to appear on Summit County's November 4 general election ballot, with competitive races emerging across municipalities and school districts throughout the region. The Summit County Board of Elections received all candidate filings by the August 6 deadline and is currently verifying petition signatures. Officials will meet August 18 to certify the ballot, with the final candidate list expected by the end of that day. Municipal Council Races Fairlawn has candidates in three wards: Joseph V. Gentile Jr. in Ward 1, Todd Stock in Ward 3, and Michael John Detorakis in Ward 5. Hudson presents the most competitive at-large race with six candidates for three seats: Chris Banweg, Kyle Brezovec, Samantha D'Eramo, Karen Heater, Will McGinley and Amanda Weinstein. Macedonia has four candidates competing for three at-large positions: Jessica Brandt, Sue Cummings, Matt Ferraro and Vini J. Ventura. Munroe Falls features three candidates for two at-large seats: Jim Iona, Chris Ritzinger and Timothy M. Vesey. Ward races include Ross Widenor running unopposed in Ward 1, while Ward 3 has a contested race between Connie Collinson and John Impellizzeri. Reminderville has four candidates for four council seats: Brandon LaWayne Board, Victoria Jeromos, Mark Kondik and Becki Kovach. Stow offers competitive races with five candidates for three at-large positions: Cyle Feldman, Kyle Herman, Jeremy McIntire, Josh Wall and Kim Young. Ward races include Matt Riehl unopposed in Ward 1, Kelly Coffey versus Sindi Harrison in Ward 2, John M. Baranek unopposed in Ward 3, and Mario Fiocca unopposed in Ward 4. Drew C. Reilly is the sole candidate for Director of Law. Twinsburg has three candidates for one at-large seat: Scott Barr, Shaun Castillo and Laurie Facsina. Ward races feature David Post unopposed in Ward 4 and Greg Bellan unopposed in Ward 5. Village Council Races Boston Heights has five candidates for four seats: Bob Bartko, Sasha Chetyrkina-Miller, Christopher Fenn, Seth Wells and Susan Wells. Clinton presents five candidates for four positions: Ellen R. Conroy, Kent Goch, John Henry, Sarah Henry and Tom Knepper. Mogadore has three candidates for three seats: C. William Bauer, Mary K. Miller and Michael Raddish. Northfield ward races include Alan E. Hipps in Ward A, Zach Hebebrand in Ward B, Renell M. Noack in Ward C, and Nicholas M. Magistrelli in Ward D. Peninsula offers the largest field with eight candidates for four seats: William Cole, Lori Dooley, Amy Frank-Hensley, Daniel Krachinsky, John Patrick Najeway, Jim Nash, Jodi R. Padrutt and Moe Riggins. Richfield has 10 candidates competing for four council positions: Carol Campbell, Monica Ann Day, Rick Hudak, Michael K. Lyons, Jeffrey Newman, Pat Norris, Joyce Parton, Jim Smith, Jeff Stoppenhagen and Dave Woytek. Silver Lake district races feature Thomas DiCaudo versus James Kurtz in District A, Kevin Rozsa unopposed in District B, Philip Kaplan unopposed in District C, and Matthew J. Plesich unopposed in District D. Township Trustee Elections Bath Township has three candidates for two seats: Sean Gaffney, James McClellan and Sharon A. Troike. Laura Tuttle is running unopposed for fiscal officer. Boston Township features three candidates for two trustee positions: Amy Z. Anderson, Mike Anderson and Nicholas Daryl Janigian. Copley Township has three candidates competing for two seats: Robert Campbell, Scott David Dressler and Bruce Koellner. Roy Speer is unopposed for fiscal officer. Coventry Township has two candidates for two positions: Edward D. Diebold and Jeff Houck. Northfield Center Township presents Gene Lim and Russell F. Mazzola for two seats. Richfield Township candidates include Don Laubacher and Robert Luther for two positions. Sagamore Hills Township has David DePasquale and Paul Schweikert running for two seats. Twinsburg Township offers the most competitive race with three candidates for two seats: Jamey DeFabio, Jessica Favitta and Keith Harris. School Board Races Akron City Schools has nine candidates for four seats: Diana Autry, Cynthia D. Blake, Gwen Bryant, Gregory B. Harrison, Carla Jackson, Nathan R. Jarosz, Karmaya Kelly, Keith Mills and Phil Montgomery. Barberton City Schools has one candidate: Brenda Stevenson Rickenbacker.
