Domestic Violence Incident Involving Elderly Victim On Dec. 4, officers responded to a domestic violence call involving an elderly woman who requires daily oxygen treatments and has heart-related medical issues. According to the report, a younger female family member allegedly held the victim down on a bed, spit in her face, and stomped on her bare feet. The suspect was arrested and booked on a charge of domestic violence – knowingly causing physical harm. She was transported to the Portage County Jail. Criminal Damaging Reported After Vehicle Windshield Broken Also on Dec. 4, officers investigated a criminal damaging complaint after a Ravenna resident reported that a male acquaintance broke the windshield of a vehicle. The incident reportedly followed a dispute in which the resident told the man he was not welcome inside the home. The victim told police he then saw the suspect damage the windshield before leaving the area. A charge of criminal damaging/endangering was filed in connection with the case. Jewelry Store Incident Leads to Public Indecency Charge On Dec. 4, officers were dispatched to a jewelry store in Ravenna after employees reported a man urinated inside the business. Staff told police the man had been waiting for help with a watch when he walked to a corner of the counter area and urinated on the counter leg and floor. Video surveillance reportedly showed the man exposing himself and appearing to urinate on the carpet in an area open to the public and employees. The man later returned to the store, was identified and admitted to exposing himself and urinating on the floor, according to the report. He was advised he would receive a summons for public indecency – exposure. Suspicious Activity Call Leads to Disorderly Conduct Summons On Dec. 5, officers were dispatched to a Ravenna location for a report of a suspicious male trying to get into a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the man standing in the doorway with a woman who said she knew him and would be leaving. After officers cleared, the original caller later contacted police and reported that the same man made a concerning statement to her and would not let her leave in her vehicle. The caller signed charges, and the man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct – offensive gesture or noise. On Dec. 7, the same man was again the subject of a complaint, this time for allegedly pounding on the back door of a residence and causing problems. A resident told officers the man came to the back door, began yelling and cursing while asking for another person, and forced the door back open when the resident tried to close it. The resident reported feeling the situation might turn into a fight. The man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct in that case as well and was advised of his court date. Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges and Traffic Citation On Dec. 5, officers conducted a traffic stop involving a Ravenna resident. During the stop, police reported finding a prescription bottle of oxycodone inside the vehicle. The prescription was allegedly in the name of the driver’s mother, who does not live with the driver. The driver was charged with possession of drugs and also cited for a traffic control device violation. She was transported to the Portage County Justice Center for incarceration. Public Urination in Downtown Ravenna On Dec. 7, while on patrol in downtown Ravenna near the intersection of Main Street and Chestnut Street, an officer reported seeing a man urinating on the side of a building in a busy area. The man was informed he would be charged in connection with the incident and later received a summons for public indecency. Possessing Drug Abuse Instruments Reported in Apartment Hallway Also on Dec. 7, officers responded to a complaint about a man sleeping in a first-floor hallway near a laundry room in a Ravenna apartment building. When officers woke him, he reportedly could not recall how he ended up sleeping in the hallway. With his consent, officers searched his belongings and reported finding three hypodermic needles—two in a backpack and one in his jeans pocket. Given his prior history of drug-related issues, he was charged with possessing drug abuse instruments, a first-degree misdemeanor, and advised of his court date.
