Police Blotter: Thrown Bread Argument, Suit-Clad Shoplifter, GetGo Escape

MACEDONIA, Ohio – The latest Macedonia police blotter includes several unusual incidents, from a domestic dispute involving thrown bread to a shoplifter in a suit jacket and a wanted man who vanished from GetGo during a flat-tire stop. Officers also handled a DUI at Chili’s, a welfare check on an elderly resident with dementia, a civil dispute over building blueprints, a found wallet from Longwood Park and an apparent accidental death at a Bruce Road home. Domestic Dispute Over Credit Card and Thrown Bread On Dec. 26 around 8:30 a.m., officers were called to a home on Redwood Court for a reported domestic incident. Dispatch had heard two people arguing before the line disconnected. Police separated the parties. The woman, a Macedonia resident, told officers her estranged husband from Cleveland Heights had taken her credit card and, during an argument about its use, punched her in the face and shoved her in the garage. Officers did not observe visible injuries. The man denied hitting her and said he only used the card to pay for services at Barks and Recreation for a dog, which she had allowed. He admitted that during the argument a loaf of bread was thrown but denied putting his hands on her. The woman wanted him out of the house. Officers advised the man to leave and to call police before returning for his clothing so they could keep the peace. No charges were filed; the incident was documented. Shoplifter In Suit Jacket Arrested After Running from Home Depot On Dec. 28 just before 8 p.m., officers responded to Home Depot at Macedonia Commons for a shoplifting call. Dispatch reported a shorter man in a suit jacket running through the parking lot. An officer found a man from Cleveland matching the description and asked what happened. He said he had purchased bleach and ran because a woman began chasing him. A supervisor at Home Depot told another responding officer the man had paid for bleach but concealed and took other merchandise without paying. When confronted about the unpaid items, the man admitted he stole them. He was taken into custody without incident and charged in Macedonia Mayor’s Court with misdemeanor theft. Home Depot reported the value of the stolen merchandise at about $512. Wanted Man Flees GetGo During Flat-Tire Call On Dec. 24 at about 11:05 p.m., an officer reported a disabled vehicle at the GetGo gas station on East Highland Road. The front passenger tire was flat, and the driver said AAA was on the way. The officer obtained identification from the driver and a male passenger and went back to his cruiser to run their information. While he did so, he saw the passenger walk into the store. A records check showed the man associated with the information provided had a full nationwide extradition warrant for robbery. Additional units, a K-9 team and a drone unit were called in to search the area. Officers were unable to locate the man. Video from GetGo showed him leaving on foot toward Route 8. The incident was documented, and the warrant information was forwarded to the appropriate authorities. DUI Arrest After Welfare Check at Chili’s On Dec. 22 around 8:37 p.m., dispatch received a welfare check request at Chili’s in Macedonia Commons after a report of a driver “slumped at the wheel” of a silver Honda CR‑V parked near the front doors. A Northfield Village officer arrived first and found a Hudson woman in the driver’s seat with the engine running. He reported that she appeared highly intoxicated, with bloodshot, watery eyes, saliva on her clothing and a strong odor of alcohol. She told him she had been drinking at the bar and had driven herself to the restaurant. Macedonia officers arrived and spoke with the woman, who said she was there alone and had not eaten dinner. She declined field sobriety tests, telling officers she would not pass. While retrieving her phone and purse from the vehicle, she lost her balance and appeared to reach for the controls as if to drive away. She was arrested for physical control and taken to the Macedonia City Jail. After being read the BMV 2255 form, she submitted a breath sample of 0.186 blood-alcohol content. She was charged through Stow Municipal Court with physical control (misdemeanor 1), driving under a noncompliance suspension and driving without a valid Ohio license. Her vehicle was secured and left in the Chili’s parking lot. Elderly Resident with Dementia Found Wandering Near K-Guard In the early morning hours of Dec. 21, around 2:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to K‑Guard on Freeway Drive after a caller reported an elderly woman walking along the road without a winter coat. The caller, a Streetsboro man, said he had stopped and invited the woman into his car to keep her warm until police arrived. The woman, a Macedonia resident in her 80s, told officers she believed her 4‑month‑old son was missing and that she was searching for him. Macedonia Fire Department personnel at the scene said the woman had severe dementia and transported her to UH A
