Kent State Twinsburg Hosts Learning for a Lifetime on Aug. 12

Twinsburg, Ohio — Kent State University's Twinsburg Academic Center will host its annual Learning for a Lifetime event on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is designed for adults age 55 and older who want to explore new topics through short seminars led by local experts. Where and When The event takes place at the Twinsburg Academic Center, located at 2745 Creekside Drive. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the seminar sessions run through 1:30 p.m. The center is co hosting the event with the Twinsburg Senior Center. Attendees can choose from topics including genealogy and local history, international travel, native plants, butterfly conservation, gardening for wildlife, leadership in retirement, emergency preparedness, financial planning and memoir writing. Each session lasts one hour, and participants can select three sessions to attend throughout the day. Seminar Lineup Session 1 begins at 9:30 a.m. and includes presentations on Road Scholar travel programs, native plants from Summit Metro Parks, butterfly conservation from Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and emergency preparedness planning from Caring Services LLC. Session 2 starts at 10:45 a.m. and covers leadership transitions in retirement, gardening for wildlife, financial and estate planning, and genealogy research through the Twinsburg Public Library. Session 3 begins at 12:30 p.m. and repeats several earlier topics alongside a new session on memoir writing, presented by Stephanie Greer of Kent State Twinsburg Academic Center. Cost and Registration Tickets cost $20 per person and include a free breakfast provided by Tamarack Ridge Health and Rehabilitation and Boulder Crossing Health and Rehabilitation. Valerie Gonzalez-Trenn, outreach and community engagement manager at Kent State University Twinsburg Academic Center, said learning throughout life boosts mental health and overall wellbeing. She added that new knowledge and skills keep the mind sharp, introduce fresh ideas and provide a sense of accomplishment. Gonzalez-Trenn said events like Learning for a Lifetime combine those benefits with the chance to meet new friends and connect with local resources. Kent State Geauga and the Twinsburg Academic Center are part of one of the largest university systems in Ohio. Students at both campuses can pursue certificate, associate and bachelor's degree programs on site, along with the first two years of coursework toward any Kent State academic program.
