Solon Police Report Two Home Break Ins, Multiple Arrests In Latest Weekly Update

Solon police released their weekly incident summary covering reports from Aug. 3 through Aug. 10. The reports include two home break ins on the same morning, a theft investigation that led to an arrest at a local Sheetz, and an identity fraud case involving two brothers. Burglary A man was arrested and charged twice after police say he entered two separate homes on the morning of Aug. 6. The first report came in around 6:35 am, when a caller told officers they had just dropped a man off at a 7-Eleven on Aurora Road and asked officers to check on him because he seemed to be acting erratically. Officers could not locate him at the time. Investigators later learned the man had gone to a home on North Roundhead Drive. A 36 year old male resident told officers he recognized the man from the past and gave him a ride after talking with him about non urgent matters. A 26 year old female resident at the home requested a protection order. Around 11:05 am that same day, officers were called to a home in the 35000 block of Nightshade Lane after a resident reported an unwanted guest. Officers arrived and found the man inside. He surrendered immediately and told officers he entered the home because he found it unlocked. A 15 year old boy who was home at the time was startled when the man appeared and called his father, who called police. Investigators say the man had a glass of water, went for a swim and was found relaxing in a bedroom before officers arrived. The suspect, a 19 year old man from Salem, was charged with two counts of Burglary, a fourth degree felony. He was taken to Solon Jail and will be transferred to Cuyahoga County Jail. Criminal Damaging A 39 year old Solon man reported that someone scratched the side of his Toyota Highlander SUV, damaging the paint. The vehicle had been parked outside the garages at the Liberty Hills Apartments on Hamilton Court sometime after Aug. 1. He discovered the damage on Aug. 4. There are no suspects at this time. Identity Theft A 64 year old Cleveland man told police his brother had been impersonating him. He said his brother was pulled over by a Solon officer on July 16 and used his identifying information during the traffic stop. The victim came to Solon police headquarters on Aug. 10 to clear his name and driving record. Officers investigated and confirmed the victim was not the driver during the July stop. Instead, they determined it was the victim's brother, a 61 year old Cleveland man. Charges of Identity Fraud, a fifth degree felony, are pending against him. Theft Officers arrested a man on Aug. 3 after a string of reports involving a suspect in a red shirt with dreadlocks near Cochran Road. An Aurora man, 50, told police his phone was stolen from his car while he was inside the Sheetz on Cochran Road. He had left his window down. Earlier that day, an employee at a nearby business reported seeing a suspicious man taking landscaping rocks from the property. Officers responded but could not find him. Later, a man reported finding a suspect inside the bed of his parked pickup truck at a business on Aurora Road. Officers located the suspect nearby. He was found carrying a bag containing landscaping rocks and the stolen phone. The suspect, a 33 year old man from South Euclid, was arrested and charged with Theft, a first degree misdemeanor. No other victims came forward to press charges, and witnesses did not pursue trespassing charges. In a separate case, a Solon man reported his wallet was stolen from his Ford Fusion overnight on Aug. 8 while it was parked outside his apartment on Park East Drive. He noticed a car door ajar the next morning. His ID and credit cards were taken, though a check of the accounts showed no recent activity. There are no suspects. Warrant Arrest Management at the Sheetz on Cochran Road called police on Aug. 5 to report several men in blue shirts they believed might be shoplifting. Officers arrived and stopped six men leaving the store. Investigators determined there was not enough evidence of a crime, though management asked that the men be warned for trespassing. During the stop, officers learned one of the men, a 24 year old from Cleveland, had an outstanding warrant from Lakewood for contempt of court. He was arrested and turned over to that agency. The other five men were released without charges.
