Gates Mills Police Blotter: Fresh Asphalt, a Dog Bite and a Close Call on Chagrin River Road

Gates Mills police handled a variety of calls over a recent stretch, ranging from a driver whose tires were coated in fresh asphalt to a resident whose online shoe order arrived short two pairs. Below is a summary of the incidents by category. Property Damage and Theft A Chardon man filed a damage to property report on Aug. 9 after driving through a paving operation on Brigham Road. He said a worker directing traffic waved him through the area. Once home, he found he could not remove the fresh asphalt from his tires and filed a report for insurance purposes. A Chartley resident reported a theft on Aug. 11 involving an online shoe order. She said she had purchased four pairs of shoes, but when the package arrived and she opened it, only two pairs were inside. The box appeared to have been opened during transit. The investigation is ongoing. Animal Bite An Amazon driver was bitten on the knee by a border collie on Aug. 9 while delivering a package at a Riverview residence. The driver sustained a minor injury. A report was filed. Dispute Calls A contractor working at a home on Chagrin River Road called 911 on Aug. 10 to report an argument with an employee. During the call, the contractor said the employee had already left and that no further assistance was needed. Officers responded to the residence but found no one there. Officers responded to a Daisy's Wood residence on Aug. 13 for a verbal dispute between an adult son and his father. The son left for the evening without further incident. Traffic Incident A woman driving on Chagrin River Road near Rogers Road reported on Aug. 14 that a silver pickup truck crossed left of center, forcing her to take evasive action. Her vehicle struck a bicycle sign along the roadside. A report was taken.
