Solon Employee Cited for Bringing Gun to Work Officers responded to a business on Bruce Industrial Parkway on August 25 after management reported an employee had brought a gun into the building, violating company policy. The business had legally required signage posted at its entrances warning against weapons on the property. Officers found the employee, a 34 year old Maple Heights man, inside the business. He consented to a search of his backpack, and officers discovered a loaded semiautomatic pistol with five rounds in the magazine. He told officers he usually leaves the gun in his car when he comes to work. He was cited for criminal trespassing, a fourth degree misdemeanor, and escorted off the property with orders not to return. Stolen Trailer Tracked to Cochran Road A trucking company traced a stolen semitrailer to a business on Cochran Road on August 26 using a GPS transmitter. Solon officers arrived to find the trailer still attached to a semi truck, with the driver seated inside. The driver, a 42 year old man, said he had picked up the trailer earlier that month from a distribution center in Indiana, where it had been reported stolen. He told officers he may have grabbed the wrong trailer but was following instructions from his employer. Officers spoke with the employer and released the driver without charges. The trailer was removed from the stolen vehicle database, although it was towed for safekeeping. Hit and Run at Solon Gym Ends in OVI Arrest A gym member called police on August 27 after her Jeep Renegade was struck in the parking lot of a fitness center on Aurora Road. The caller, a 25 year old Bedford woman, said a gym employee she recognized admitted he had hit her car. When she said she planned to report it, he reportedly asked her not to, then drove off in his Cadillac. The man returned on foot as officers spoke with the caller, who told them the driver had liquor on his breath. He gave officers a shifting account of what happened and struggled through field sobriety tests. He was arrested and taken to Solon Jail, where he refused a breath test, triggering an automatic license suspension. Police charged a 56 year old Garfield Heights man with OVI and driving under suspension, both first degree misdemeanors. His Cadillac was found nearby and towed. Iowa Woman Arrested on Drug Paraphernalia Charge A passerby alerted police on August 29 after spotting a woman who appeared to be talking to herself in a shopping center parking lot on Aurora Road. Officers responded to check on her welfare. The woman said she was traveling from Iowa to New York and had been asking people for money along the way. Officers offered her a ride to a nearby store after she agreed to a search for contraband. That search turned up a suspected crack pipe. Police arrested a 46 year old Iowa woman on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth degree misdemeanor, and took her to Solon Jail. Headlight Stop Leads to Felony Warrant Arrest An officer stopped a black Honda near Cochran Road and Carter Street early on August 31 after noticing its headlights were off. A records check revealed the driver had an outstanding felony warrant out of Cleveland. Officers detained the driver while confirming the warrant and asked a teenage passenger, identified as his sister, to step out of the vehicle during the investigation. The 16 year old was found with cigars and suspected marijuana and was released to a family member who came to the scene. A 25 year old Cleveland man was arrested on the Cleveland warrant and held for that agency at Solon Jail. He was also cited for a temporary license violation and driving without headlights. The Honda was towed. Solon's juvenile officer plans to refer the teenager's case to Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court for possible delinquency charges connected to underage drug and tobacco possession.
