Northeast Ohio Shelter Drops Dog Adoption Fees to $28 for September

A Northeast Ohio animal shelter is making it easier to bring home a new pet this fall. Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Summit County Animal Control kicked off a monthlong adoption promotion called Fur the Love of Fall. Beginning September 1, dogs at the Akron shelter are available for $28. That price is a savings of $68 off the regular $96 adoption fee. What the Fee Covers The $28 fee includes everything a new pet needs for a healthy start. Every dog is microchipped and fully vetted, which includes bloodwork, flea treatment, intestinal deworming, spay or neuter surgery and vaccinations. A 2026 Summit County Dog License is also part of the deal. Shapiro tied the promotion to the season ahead. "Whether you're exploring a pumpkin patch, taking a walk through the changing leaves, or simply enjoying a cozy day at home, an adopted dog can quickly become your new best friend," she said. "This fall, consider adding a little more fur, fun, and love to your family!" Visiting the Shelter Residents from across the region can browse adoptable dogs online or stop by in person. Appointments are not required, though the shelter encourages them. Anyone interested can call 330 643 2845 to set one up. Summit County Animal Control is located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron. The shelter is open seven days a week: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The promotion runs through Wednesday, September 30.
