Gates Mills Police Respond to Suspended License Stop, Lost Backpack and Knocked Over Mailbox

Gates Mills police officers fielded several calls between September 1 and September 4, ranging from a suspended license stop to a lost backpack and a knocked over mailbox at the post office. Traffic and Roadway Calls A motorist called police just after 6:30 a.m. on September 1 to report an erratic driver near the intersection of Mayfield Road and Chagrin River Road. Officers checked the area but did not locate the vehicle described. Later that same day, a woman driving on Timberidge spotted a black backpack sitting in the roadway. She stopped and retrieved the bag, then found an Ohio ID card inside belonging to a man who turned out to be working at a nearby property. The backpack was returned to its owner. On September 2, officers responded to a disabled vehicle on Mayfield Road. A responding officer helped the driver, a Cleveland man, with a jump start. During the stop, officers learned the man was driving under a suspended license. He was cited, and the vehicle was later removed from the scene by a licensed driver. Property and Welfare Checks A post office patron reported at 7:15 a.m. on September 3 that the outdoor mailbox had been knocked over. An officer determined a vehicle had struck the mailbox but caused no lasting damage. The mailbox was set upright, and postal staff were notified. The vehicle involved was not identified. On September 4, a caller reported a man who had parked at St. Francis church and appeared to be wandering the property. Responding officers checked the area but found no sign of the man or his vehicle by the time they arrived. Also on September 4, an Apple Watch triggered an automatic 911 call from a customer at Sara's Place. Officers responded and confirmed the call was accidental. The customer was checked and found to be fine.
