Five OVI Arrests, Assault Case Reported by Solon Police in Northeast Ohio

Solon Police in Northeast Ohio released details on several reports from the past week. Five drivers were arrested on OVI charges, and officers also investigated an assault, a protection order violation and a bicycle theft near Solon High School. The reports cover incidents between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6. Protection Order Violation Reported A Solon man, 40, told police his wife had called him and later showed up at his home in violation of a protection order. The woman, 36, of Warrensville, was ordered by a court to stay away from him following a 2024 domestic violence arrest. Officers forwarded the case to a prosecutor for consideration of a criminal charge. The potential charge is Violation of a Protection Order, a first degree misdemeanor. Bike Stolen at Solon High School A 13 year old Solon student reported that someone stole his electric bike outside Solon High School on Sept. 1. He had left the ebike, valued at $700, unattended in bushes on the west side of the building. His mother, 52, did not want the suspect charged, but she did want the bike returned. A witness said a white man with long hair rode the bike away. Police will try to identify the suspect if video evidence becomes available. Woman Arrested After Following Too Closely An officer saw a white Volvo following too closely behind another vehicle on U.S. 422 near Liberty Road on the night of Sept. 2. The Volvo also drifted outside its marked lane. After stopping the car, the officer smelled alcohol and noted poor performance on field sobriety tests. The driver, a 47 year old woman from Cleveland Heights, was arrested and taken to Solon Jail. A breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .168 percent, more than twice the legal limit. She was charged with OVI and Prohibited BAC, both first degree misdemeanors, and received warnings for Driving in Marked Lanes and Following Too Closely. The car was towed. SUV Strikes Bollard on Aurora Road An officer on patrol found a BMW SUV stopped at the corner of Aurora Road and SOM Center Road on Sept. 3 with heavy damage. The vehicle had struck a cement traffic bollard while heading east on Aurora Road. Paramedics treated the driver, who remained behind the wheel and showed signs of possible injury. She had an odor of alcohol and slurred speech, and she refused field sobriety testing at the hospital. She did provide a urine sample for lab testing. The driver, a 62 year old woman from Twinsburg, was cited for OVI and Failure to Control and taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life threatening. The car was towed, and further charges are pending lab results. Driver Enters Bike Lane Before Arrest An officer saw a blue Nissan SUV driving east on Aurora Road near Signature Drive on Sept. 4. The SUV entered the bike lane and crossed the center line. After stopping the driver, the officer noticed slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. The woman had poor performance on field sobriety tests and was arrested. She refused a breath test at Solon Jail, and her license was placed under suspension. The driver, a 42 year old woman from Aurora, was charged with OVI and Driving in Marked Lanes. The car was towed. Speeding Driver Stopped on SOM Center Road An officer saw a black Volvo SUV driving south on SOM Center Road toward Aurora Road early on Sept. 5. The car moved into the middle lane before making an improper turn west onto Aurora Road. It continued outside the marked lanes and reached about 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer stopped the driver on Solon Boulevard after he said he was exhausted and showed bloodshot eyes. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested. A breath test registered "under a .02%" blood alcohol content, below the legal limit, though he also gave a urine sample for lab analysis. The driver, a 31 year old man from South Euclid, was charged with OVI, speeding, Driving in Marked Lanes and Expired Plates. Further charges are pending lab results, and the car was towed. No Tail Lights Leads to OVI Arrest An officer saw a white Jeep Grand Cherokee driving south on Solon Boulevard from Aurora Road early on Sept. 6. The Jeep had no working tail lights, and its left turn signal stayed on well after passing Linden Drive without turning. After stopping the driver, the officer noted he first denied drinking, then admitted to having "a little bit of beer." The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to Solon Jail, where a breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .049 percent, below the legal limit. The driver, a 43 year old Solon man, was charged with OVI and No Tail Lights. The car was towed. Assault Investigation After Traffic Dispute Solon police responded to the Warrensville Heights police station on Sept. 5 after officers there reported investigating a possible assault linked to Solon.
