Suspicious Vehicles, Road Rage and Bus Crash Round Out Gates Mills Police Reports

Suspicious Vehicle Reports A Chartley resident reported an unknown vehicle on Sept. 14 after home security cameras showed it pulling into her driveway and sitting stationary for several minutes. She was not home at the time and asked officers to check the property. The vehicle was gone when police arrived, and the house was found secure. A Fox Hill Drive resident reported a similar incident on Sept. 15. The resident saw an unknown vehicle pull into the driveway through a window. Officers responded, but the vehicle had already left. Extra patrols were requested for the area. Traffic Incidents Police checked Matfield Road near County Line on Sept. 15 after a reported crash, but found nothing when they searched the area. An officer did locate a cell phone in the roadway during the search. The owner was contacted and claimed the phone. A school bus rear ended a vehicle stopped at a red light on Sept. 18. The crash happened eastbound on Mayfield Road at Chagrin River Road. A Hawken Upper School bus carrying five students struck the car after its driver failed to maintain an assured clear distance. No injuries were reported, and the bus driver was cited. Road Rage Investigation A motorcyclist reported being tailgated on Chagrin River Road near Mayfield Road on Sept. 18. He said the driver behind him exited his vehicle at a traffic light, approached him and exchanged words before slapping him on the neck. The driver then left the scene, and the motorcyclist recorded his license plate. Police contacted the other driver, who gave a different account. He said the motorcyclist passed his vehicle on Chagrin River Road, made gestures toward him and exchanged words at the light. The investigation is ongoing.
