Bedford Sets Busy September With City Address, Two Weekend Events And Fall Festival

Bedford residents have a full slate of city business and community events this fall, according to the city's September newsletter and recent city announcements. Highlights include the State of the City Address, a weekend combining a garage sale with a shred day, a wastewater plant upgrade and a public meeting on the city's master plan. State of the City Address set for September 15 Mayor Stan Koci and City Manager Michael S. Mallis will deliver the State of the City Address on Tuesday, September 15 at Ellenwood Center, 124 Ellenwood Avenue. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., lunch will be served at noon and the address begins at 12:30 p.m. Lunch costs $16 per person with a reservation, though residents may attend the address alone at no charge. Garage sale and shred day share a September 12 date Bedford will hold its citywide garage sale on Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents who want to participate must apply through the Building Department or online before the sale. A list of participating addresses will be released the Wednesday before the event. The city asked sellers not to leave unsold items at the curb outside their normal collection schedule, warning that early curbside items could result in a citation. That same morning, the city will host a free Community Shred Day at Bedford City Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. The event gives residents a secure way to destroy personal documents. Funding for the shredding service came from a grant through the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste Management District. Chipper service and Labor Day changes Chipper pickup runs during the weeks of September 7 and October 5. City Hall will close Monday, September 7 for Labor Day, and refuse collection will run one day behind schedule that week. Fall Festival returns to Bedford Square Families can look forward to the annual Children's Fall Festival on Saturday, October 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bedford Square, 730 Broadway Avenue. City seeks volunteers for boards and commissions Bedford is accepting resumes from residents interested in serving on several boards, including the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of Building Standards and Appeals, Civil Service Commission, Tree Board, Local Board of Tax Review and Assessment Equalization Board. Parks and Recreation rolls out fall lineup Bedford Parks and Recreation released its fall programs snapshot, covering offerings for children, teens, adults and seniors. Classes include art, chess, yoga, pickleball, fencing, sewing, tai chi and a senior club with meals and day trips. The department also listed special events such as Bedford Fall Fest, Trick or Treat Street, Family Karaoke and Bingo, and Breakfast with Santa. Registration deadline for the Bearcat Youth Flag Football Clinic, open to grades K through 5 at Hutchinson Field, has been extended to September 4 for remaining spots.
