Ohio road crews plan closures and detours across six counties next week

Drivers across Northeast Ohio should plan ahead this week. The Ohio Department of Transportation has released its District 4 traffic advisory covering bridge work, resurfacing projects and ramp closures in six counties. All work remains weather permitting and could shift if conditions change. Below is a county by county breakdown of what to expect. Summit County Several major highways in Summit County have new restrictions this week. Interstate 76 near Norton has reduced lanes and ramp closures near State Route 21 through early October for bridge repairs. A weekend closure begins Friday, September 25, at 6 p.m. on I-76 east at SR 261 and continues through Monday morning. Interstate 77 remains under construction in two locations. Northbound lanes between Waterloo Road and Lovers Lane have occasional restrictions for noise wall installation. Between Ghent Road and Everett Road, various lane closures continue for roadway widening. The I-277/U.S. 224 bridge deck project in Akron continues into 2028, with lane reductions on the ramp from I-77 north and on the overpass itself. Akron bridge and roadway closures State Route 8 will see its biggest disruption yet this weekend. On Sunday, September 27, SR 8 will fully close between Perkins Street and Tallmadge Avenue from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Several connecting ramps will also close that morning. East North Street under SR 8 closes through late October, and multiple ramps tied to the bridge project remain shut through 2028. In Twinsburg and Hudson, I-480 has lane restrictions where it crosses Stow Road, and Stow Road itself stays closed under the interstate through mid November. Smaller but notable closures include SR 91 between River Road and Munroe Falls Avenue through late October, a Towpath Trail closure under SR 82 in Sagamore Hills Township, and a new culvert closure on SR 303 near I-77 in Richfield Township beginning September 30. Local drivers in Macedonia should also note ongoing lane restrictions at Highland Road and Valley View Road, where intersection improvements continue through December. Ashtabula County Crews continue work on U.S. Route 6 north of Orchard Drive, where a culvert replacement keeps the road closed through mid October. In the city of Ashtabula, State Route 84 has multiple closures through late November, including the intersection of Main Avenue and Collins Street beginning September 28. A new bridge project also closes SR 193 between Maple Road and Fink Road in Sheffield Township through late October. Mahoning County Mahoning County has the most extensive list of closures in this week's report, centered on the ongoing I-680 reconstruction in Youngstown. I-680 in Youngstown I-680 southbound will fully close overnight Tuesday, September 29, through Wednesday morning for bridge work. Meanwhile, southbound traffic continues to run on the crossed over northbound lanes for the duration of the larger reconstruction project. The northbound side between South Avenue and SR 193 remains closed through summer 2027. Numerous ramps connected to I-680 are closed through late 2026 or into 2027 and 2028, affecting access near Glenwood Avenue, Mahoning Avenue, Market Street and SR 193. Drivers who rely on these interchanges should expect long term detours and should check current signage before traveling. Other Mahoning County projects I-80 remains reduced to two lanes in both directions between the Meander Reservoir and SR 46 through mid November. In Youngstown, the Wick Avenue bridge over U.S. 422 has closures through early October, along with ramp closures affecting eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 traffic. Portage County Nightly lane restrictions continue on I-76 between SR 44 and Industry Road in Rootstown and Edinburg townships through mid October. A new culvert project closes U.S. 224 just east of SR 44 through early October. In Streetsboro, nightly restrictions continue on SR 14 and SR 43 through late October, and SR 303 remains closed at SR 14. Two culvert projects affect smaller routes this week. SR 82 near Horn Road in Windham Township has reopened, while SR 700 north of Hankee Road in Hiram Township closes beginning September 28 through October 5. Stark County U.S. Route 30 has a new ramp closure beginning September 28, when the ramp from U.S. 30 west to I-77 south shuts down through mid October for bridge repairs. Resurfacing and bridge work continue on several stretches of U.S. 30 in Canton, East Canton and Minerva, along with SR 172 in East Canton. In Massillon and Lawrence Township, resurfacing continues on portions of SR 241 and SR 172 through late October. Trumbull County Pennsylvania's transportation department is overseeing lane restrictions on I-80 eastbound near the state line in Hubbard Township, and delays are expected in that area.
