Grocery store assault, crash with child aboard among Solon police cases

Solon police handled a wide mix of cases from Sept. 21 to Sept. 26. The list below is not exhaustive. Charges are allegations, and every person charged is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Assault Sept. 24, 10:07 a.m., Marc's on SOM Center Road Officers went to Marc's after a report of an assault. Both people involved were still at the store. Police learned a Marc's employee and a delivery driver had argued in the receiving area. The driver told officers the employee hit him in the back of the head. He called the act unprovoked. The employee said he "swung on him" because the driver would not move out of the way. Police arrested the employee, a 42 year old Solon man, and took him to Solon Jail. He was charged with assault, a first degree misdemeanor. The driver, a 33 year old Northfield man, was treated at the scene for a reported bump on the head. He was released. Domestic Violence Sept. 21, 10:40 p.m., Valley Forge Drive Dispatch received a 911 hang up call from a Solon home. Officers went there and spoke with a woman and her husband, a 44 year old Solon man. The couple described a verbal argument. The woman reportedly slapped her husband on the face or head during the argument. Police arrested her, a 42 year old Solon woman. She was taken to Solon Jail and charged with domestic violence, a first degree misdemeanor. No injuries were reported. Sept. 25, 7:14 p.m., Andre Lane Officers were sent for a welfare check on a 14 year old girl reportedly beaten by her father. The girl told them her father slapped her face and hit her several times on the back with a belt. Officers saw injuries consistent with her account. Her father, a 44 year old Solon man, was no longer at the home. Officers contacted him. He turned himself in at the Solon Police Department shortly after. He was charged with domestic violence, a first degree misdemeanor. Jail staff held him until the court set his bond. Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence Sept. 22, 8:02 p.m., State Route 91 at Bainbridge Road Officers responded to a crash near SOM Center Road and Bainbridge Road. A vehicle had left the roadway and hit a curb. It then went over a raised median, and the airbags deployed. The arriving officer saw the driver throw a plastic cup and a bag at a wall. The driver appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. He also did poorly on field sobriety tests. Police arrested the driver, a 33 year old Warrensville Heights man, and took him to Solon Jail. He refused a breath test. His license was placed under suspension. The vehicle was towed. The man was charged with OVI, a first degree misdemeanor. He also faces a failure to control charge, a minor misdemeanor, and an endangering children charge, a second degree misdemeanor. The endangering charge stems from the crash happening with a child in the car. A 26 year old woman from Madison, Ohio, and the driver's 10 year old daughter from Warrensville Heights were also in the vehicle. No injuries were reported. Sept. 25, 1:19 a.m., Harper Road An officer on patrol saw a gray GMC SUV parked against a curb near the driveway apron of a business plaza. The SUV was running and still in reverse. A person sat behind the wheel, apparently asleep. Officers woke the driver and told her to put the vehicle in park. She turned on the windshield wipers instead. The officer described her as lethargic and confused. She smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. She did poorly on field sobriety tests. Police arrested the driver, a 36 year old Euclid woman, and took her to Solon Jail. She refused a breath test, and her license was placed under suspension. She was charged with OVI, a first degree misdemeanor. Officers towed the car. Theft Sept. 23, 3:44 p.m., Duneden Avenue A 62 year old Glenwillow man reported his vehicle stolen. He said his 16 year old son drove the family's 2019 Hyundai Sonata to Duneden Avenue that morning. The teen routinely parks there before going to Solon High School. He noticed the car was gone after school. Father and son went to the police station to report it. They still had both sets of keys. Police saw evidence the car may have been towed. The owners said no one had a reason to tow it. Officers entered the car as stolen in a police database. The case remains under investigation. Underage Party Sept. 26, 11:35 p.m., Michael Drive Officers responded twice to a home for noise complaints. On the second visit, they saw juveniles outside and evidence of drinking alcohol. Officers contacted the homeowners. A large number of juveniles were inside for a party. Police released the juveniles to their parents. The homeowners, a 44 year old Solon woman and a 46 year old Solon man, were cited and released for allowing underage persons to consume alcohol at their home. The charge is a first degree misdemeanor.
