Summit County grand jury indicts former Green teacher on 9 counts

AKRON, Ohio: A Summit County grand jury has indicted a former City of Green Schools teacher on rape and sexual battery charges. The Summit County Sheriff's Office said the man was arrested Sept. 30 and booked into the Summit County Jail. Report led to a broader investigation The case began in October, when a woman contacted the Summit County Sheriff's Office. She reported that she was sexually assaulted as a student at Green Middle School. She told investigators the abuse started when she was 13 years old. The sheriff's office identified the suspect as a 64 year old North Canton man. The woman reported numerous encounters with him between 1997 and 1999. Investigators said they happened both on and off school property. The Sheriff's Detective Bureau opened an investigation. During that work, detectives found additional female students who also engaged in sexual activity with the man while he was employed by City of Green Schools. What the grand jury decided Prosecutors presented the case to the Summit County Grand Jury on Sept. 29. The panel returned nine counts. The charges include: Three counts of rape, each a first degree felony Six counts of sexual battery, each a third degree felony An indictment is a formal accusation and not a finding of guilt. Regional task force makes the arrest The United States Marshals Northeast Ohio Fugitive Task Force worked with the Summit County Sheriff's Office to locate the man. They arrested him on Sept. 30. He remains in the Summit County Jail. Search for more victims continues The sheriff's office said its investigation is ongoing. Detectives want to know if other victims exist.
