Summit County puts $28 price tag on dog adoptions for Barktober

Northeast Ohio residents looking to add a dog to the family have a new reason to visit the shelter this fall. Summit County Animal Control is cutting the adoption fee to $28 for the entire month of October. County Executive Ilene Shapiro announced the promotion, called Barktober, on Thursday. A full package for one low fee The $28 covers far more than the adoption itself. Each dog goes home microchipped and fully vetted. Bloodwork, flea treatments, intestinal deworming, vaccinations and spay or neuter surgery are all part of the package. Adopters also receive a Summit County dog license at no extra cost. Shapiro invites residents to visit Shapiro said the promotion is meant to connect shelter dogs with families before the holidays arrive. "I encourage residents to stop by Animal Control and consider giving one a loving home this fall," Shapiro said. Planning a visit Animal Control is located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron. The facility is open for adoptions seven days a week through Saturday, Oct. 31.
