SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio – The Summit Emergency Communications Center has been named the Ohio Gold Star Dispatch Center of the Year. County Executive Ilene Shapiro announced the honor Oct. 1. The award was presented Sept. 16 in Delaware, Ohio. The center, known as SECC, handles dispatch for much of Summit County. Its team received the statewide recognition as part of the Ohio Gold Star Awards program. About the Gold Star Awards The Gold Star Awards honor exceptional emergency communications professionals and teams. They also recognize the role telecommunicators play in the safety and well being of communities across Ohio. The program is held with the Ohio NENA/APCO Joint State Conference. Shapiro credits the team Shapiro said the award reflects the work of the people behind the headsets. "This recognition is a testament to the incredible team we have built at the Summit Emergency Communications Center," Shapiro said. "Our dispatchers are often the first point of contact during someone's most difficult moments, and the work they do every day requires skill, compassion and an unwavering commitment to public safety.
