The Akron Summit Council on Holocaust & Genocide Education will hold its annual Educator Seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Shaw JCC, 750 White Pond Drive in Akron. Educators will explore ways to teach this year’s Holocaust Arts and Writing Contest theme and encourage student participation. Who is speaking Lauren Karas, director of education at the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center in Cincinnati, is this year’s speaker. The seminar will consider how historical examples can help people understand the importance of standing up for others and responding to injustice. Upstanders’ actions create openings for classroom discussion. Topics include personal responsibility, empathy and the choices people make in difficult circumstances. How the seminar ties to the student contest The seminar also supports the 39th Annual Akron Summit Holocaust Arts and Writing Contest.
