Aurora community unveils renovated Leighton Amphitheater as outdoor classroom, honoring educator Sherri Retton and recognizing local business for the project.
An underused, dilapidated space at Leighton Elementary has a new life. The Aurora Schools Foundation, Aurora City School District and community partners recently cut the ribbon on the renovated Leighton Amphitheater Outdoor Classroom. The project began with a grant proposal from three Leighton educators. It grew into a community effort backed by local organizations, businesses and families. The evening also included live music, a flag ceremony and a permanent sign honoring longtime Aurora educator Sherri Retton. There was one more surprise. The company that completed the renovation was named the Aurora Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year during the event. Read the full story on The Aurora Pulse to learn who made it happen.
