IN LOVING MEMORY - MARIA ANGELA SERITTI
IN LOVING MEMORY MARIA ANGELA SERITTI (The Story of a Life Complete) November 12, 1930 – October 16, 2026 It is with profound sorrow, yet hearts overflowing with reverence and gratitude, that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, mother, nonna, bisnonna and guiding light, Maria Angela Seritti. Hers was not merely a life lived; it was an extraordinary epic of endurance, sacrifice, boundless devotion, and quiet grace. Ironically, the trajectory of Maria Angela’s destiny was set into motion long before she drew her first breath. On the bitter morning of January 13, 1915, a devastating 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the region of L’Aquila near Avezzano, reducing ancient stone to dust. Left homeless amid the rubble, the young man who would become her father sought shelter with the woman who would become her mother. From the ashes of national tragedy, love took root, and on November 12, 1930, Maria Angela entered the world as the cherished “baby” of the family. She was born into a world of hardship, and hers was never a pampered existence. From her earliest years, she learned the practical grit, fierce resourcefulness, and selflessness required to navigate life’s steepest climbs. Maria Angela bore witness to more history and heartache than most could endure: the lean ache of childhood poverty, the tender, unfathomable sorrow of losing her own mother at a young age, followed by the passing of multiple stepmothers, and the harrowing shadows of the Second World War. As a young woman, she watched German soldiers commandeer her family's farm for years, standing brave and unwavering even under the terrifying fury of falling bombs. Yet war and scarcity could not dim the warmth of her spirit or her determination to build something beautiful. Maria Angela answered life’s call across continents, venturing across the ocean to Argentina, where the joy of marriage and the miracle of starting her own family began. Her journey took her further still, planting deep roots in the United States, where she proudly realized the dream of becoming an American citizen. For fifty-nine devoted years, she shared life’s joys and burdens beside her beloved husband. When he was called home, a piece of her went with him, yet she remained the steadfast heartbeat of our family. Her eyes, which had witnessed the terror of war and the ache of grief, softened into pure, radiant joy at the arrival of each cherished grandchild and great-grandchild. Even through the isolation and trials of recent times, her faith, resilience, and fierce love never wavered. Maria Angela gave everything of herself so that the generations after her could know comfort, dignity, and unconditional love. Her hands worked ceaselessly; her arms embraced without condition; her prayers shielded us all. Now, her long pilgrimage has ended, and she is reunited with her beloved husband, her mother, and all those who went before her. She leaves behind a legacy carved not in stone, but forever etched into the souls of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone blessed to have known her warmth. Rest peacefully, sweet Mother. Your labor is finished, your trials are over, and your love will carry us through the remainder of our days.
