Community — Summit County
Summit County Animal Control offers $28 dog adoptions through November 30 as part of the FURever Thankful Adoption Event, aiming to help pets find homes before year's end.
Thanksgiving is coming, and the dogs at Summit County Animal Control are ready to find new homes. The county shelter in Akron has lowered its dog adoption fee to $28 for the month of November. The promotion is called the FURever Thankful Adoption Event. Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Summit County Animal Control are hosting it from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. The county describes the event as a way to celebrate the generosity residents have shown the shelter all year long. A Thank You to the Community Support for the shelter has come in many forms. Some residents like and share photos on Facebook to help lost pets get back to their families. Others volunteer their time to walk and play with the dogs. Many have adopted a new pet into their homes. The county says every one of those acts makes a difference. The reduced fee is meant to spread even more holiday cheer while helping dogs find loving homes before the end of the year. Big Savings, Full Care Dog adoptions at the shelter normally cost $94. The November price saves adopters $66. Lower cost does not mean less care. Each dog leaves the shelter microchipped and fully vetted. Veterinary care covers bloodwork, flea treatment, intestinal deworming, spay or neuter surgery and vaccinations. Adopters also go home with a 2026 Summit County Dog License. The license cost is already built into the $28 fee. Planning Your Visit Anyone interested in adopting can call 330-643-2845 to set up an appointment.
