Solon has a new pizza option, and it comes with a serious culinary pedigree. Boom’s Pizza opened at 6130 Kruse Drive on Oct. 22. Founder Ben Bebenroth said 88 pizzas were sold that first night, even though permanent signage was not up yet. The shop fills the former Mega Barre Solon fitness studio. It sits between Mitchell’s Ice Cream and Panera Bread. Carryout and Delivery Only Solon diners should know one thing before heading over. This is the brand’s first location built only for carryout and delivery, with no dining room. There is also no liquor license, but the concept is otherwise much the same. The menu matches the other locations. Guests will find pizza, salads, appetizers and drinks, including vegan options and locally sourced ingredients. The Solon kitchen has twice the oven capacity of its sister shops, which should cut wait times. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Catering for Solon Businesses and Schools Bebenroth sees opportunity beyond family dinners. He pointed to Solon’s large daytime workforce and its schools as strong prospects for catering. That could make Boom’s a go-to for office lunches and team events. Who Owns Boom’s Pizza Boom’s comes from two longtime Cleveland chefs. Ben Bebenroth and Jonathan Bennett are chef-partners in the business. Bebenroth previously ran Spice Kitchen & Bar. That restaurant closed in 2020 during the pandemic. The pizza grew out of hard times. The partners tested recipes at Friday pop-ups at Keep the Change Kitchen Collective, a virtual food hall from Spice Hospitality Group. The brand is named after Bebenroth’s grandfather, Carl, known as “Boom.” What Makes the Pizza Different Boom’s describes its pies as a cross between New York and Neapolitan styles. Each signature pizza measures 14 inches, and build-your-own options are available. The sourdough crust has drawn particular praise. Another signature move puts the tomato sauce on top of the cheese instead of underneath. The City of Solon recently featured Boom’s in its Solon Business Spotlight. The city’s flyer calls the founder an award-winning chef and highlights the shop’s carefully engineered dough. Local businesses interested in the program can contact the city’s economic development office. Other Boom’s Pizza Locations Solon joins a growing family of shops across Greater Cleveland: Lakewood: The original location opened at 14730 Detroit Ave. in January 2023. Shaker Heights: A larger pizzeria opened at Van Aken District in 2024. Van Aken Market Hall: A slice shop launched inside the Market Hall on June 15. Avon: A new pizzeria at Avon Commons Shopping Center is expected in the coming months. That location will include a small dining room. The expansion follows a plan set out from day one. Bebenroth said his goal was five Boom’s locations in Northeast Ohio within five years, then a move into Columbus. For menus and online ordering, visit boomspizza.com.
