Public Safety — Solon

The Solon Police Department recently handled several incidents, including a shoplifting report at a local Dollar Tree, a high-BAC OVI arrest involving a minor, and physical altercations leading to domestic violence charges.

SOLON, Ohio — The Solon Police Blotter for early April 2026 highlights a range of criminal activity including retail theft, impaired driving with a minor, and physical domestic disputes. Officers from the Solon Police Department responded to a shoplifting call on Aurora Road, conducted traffic stops resulting in OVI charges near Station Street, and intervened in a physical confrontation on Solon Boulevard. ## Shoplifting Incident at Aurora Road Dollar Tree On April 2, 2026, at 1:43 pm, management at the Dollar Tree on Aurora Road reported a theft. A white male with gray hair, estimated to be over 50 years old, allegedly fled the store with frozen food items. The suspect was wearing a white baseball cap, blue jacket, blue pants, and carrying a black bookbag. While police searched the area and warned other local businesses, the suspect was not located, and the case was closed without an estimate of property loss. ## OVI and Endangering Children on Solon Road A 57-year-old Cleveland man was arrested on April 3 at approximately 10:00 pm after an officer observed him run a red light and drive left of center on Solon Road, nearly causing a collision. The driver smelled of alcohol and performed poorly on pre-exit sobriety tests. A breath test at the Solon Jail registered a 0.172% BAC. Because a 16-year-old girl was a passenger in the vehicle, the driver was charged with OVI and Endangering Children, and a referral was made to Children's Services. ## Domestic Violence and Strangulation on Solon Boulevard Officers responded to a domestic dispute in progress on April 5 in the 6800 block of Solon Blvd. An argument regarding an intoxicated grandmother yelling at children escalated into a physical altercation between a 41-year-old male and a 39-year-old female. The female alleged she was strangled and struck during the argument. Officers observed marks consistent with strangulation. The male was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence and Strangulation. The female was also charged with Domestic Violence after the male reported being struck during the incident.
