Good morning — it’s Wednesday, April 15, and spring is moving fast across Northeast Ohio. Here’s what mattered in the last 24 hours around the region to help you plan your day. Commercial development stayed hot: Seven Hills officially broke ground on a new 60‑bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on Rockside Road, a project expected to create more than 100 jobs in the area. That momentum echoes across our bulletin board: Vallourec has begun a $48 million manufacturing line expansion in Youngstown, Charter Next Generation is investing $106.3 million to add 157,000 square feet in Lexington, and Solon’s lifestyle-center project cleared a brownfield grant and is moving toward vertical construction. Broadview Heights also approved a commercial and medical office development at I‑77 and Route 82 that will include a UH urgent care center — more options for health care and retail close to home. Local government and services saw a flurry of moves. Summit County Council approved new union contracts, infrastructure funding and several board appointments at its April 13 meeting, while Garfield Heights council updated park-safety rules, OK’d new police vehicles and launched school partnership programs. Akron City Council extended the application deadline for vacant seats on the Citizens’ Police Oversight Board to today, April 15 — residents from all 10 wards are encouraged to apply. In smaller communities, Hiram Mayor Anne Haynam tapped Anthony Marotta, an Aurora Fire lieutenant with 30 years of service, as interim fire chief, and Bainbridge Township is hiring part‑time building attendants at $20 per hour for facility rentals and events. On the community and culture front, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame revealed its 2026 inductees — including Phil Collins, Oasis, Sade and Wu‑Tang Clan — with the ceremony set for Nov. 14 in Los Angeles and a Cleveland return slated for 2027. We also published an obituary for William “Bill” Ernest Brown, 63, a Nordonia Hills resident formerly of Northfield and Florida. Sports highlights from the past couple of days include the Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights’ 17‑3 loss to Brecksville‑Broadview Heights on Monday, April 13; despite a late surge featuring home runs by Smeal and Bene, the visitors’ 18‑hit attack proved too much. We’ll keep tracking local high school schedules and scores as the spring season ramps up.
