Photo credit: City of Euclid, Ohio Facebook page The Shore Cultural Centre has officially been awarded a $19,327 grant from the Ohio History Connection's Ohio History Fund to undergo a complete rehabilitation of two public restrooms. These facilities, located closest to the Shore auditorium, serve thousands of visitors annually and are essential to the building's continued role as a community hub. This specific project was selected from a record 68 submissions statewide, making Euclid one of only 15 recipients in the 2026 grant cycle. Preserving a Euclid Landmark through History Fund Support The Ohio History Fund is a competitive matching grant program that supports various preservation and education projects across the state. In this 2026 grant cycle, the Ohio History Connection distributed a total of $194,657, with Euclid's landmark facility securing nearly 10% of those available resources. The project is classified as an "adaptive reuse" effort, meaning the restrooms will be modified to meet modern Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards while strictly maintaining the historic character of the original 1913 structure. Economic Impact of the Shore Cultural Centre Beyond its architectural significance, the Shore Cultural Centre serves as a vital small business incubator for Northeast Ohio. The building is currently home to more than 35 small businesses , including dance studios, artisans, and community organizations. Maintaining the infrastructure of the 125,000-square-foot building — which originally opened as Shore High School in 1913 — is critical for these tenants. City officials noted that the renovation of the auditorium-adjacent restrooms will directly benefit the visitors, performers, and patrons who support these local entrepreneurs throughout the year. Community Celebration and Future Improvements The grant was officially announced during the annual Statehood Day event at the Statehouse in Columbus. To celebrate the achievement, the City of Euclid and the Ohio History Connection plan to host a public open house and guided tours of the facility. This event will showcase the areas slated for improvement and highlight the building's status on the National Register of Historic Places. Long-time manager Laura Kidder expressed that the support is a testament to the community's mission to preserve the Shore as a thriving cultural and economic anchor for generations to come.
