MACEDONIA, Ohio – The Nordonia Knights varsity sports teams experienced a weekend of extreme highs and lows on the diamond. While the baseball team suffered a devastating walk-off loss against the Green Bulldogs, the Lady Knights softball team showcased absolute dominance with a double-digit shutout against Shaker Heights, maintaining their momentum in the Suburban League. Nordonia Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Green Bulldogs The Nordonia Knights baseball team traveled to Green Middle School on Friday, April 17, for a matchup that ultimately went down to the final play. Despite a strong start where Canzoni doubled in the first inning to give the Knights an early lead, the Green Bulldogs clawed back. The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch allowed Green to walk away with a 4-3 victory. Wolff provided a quality start for Nordonia, pitching six innings and allowing only two earned runs while striking out four. Offensively, McClelland and Leitner each tallied two hits, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bulldogs’ late-inning surge. Lady Knights Softball Dominates Shaker Heights in 10-0 Rout In stark contrast to the baseball outcome, the Nordonia Lady Knights softball team dismantled Shaker Heights 10-0 on Saturday, April 18. The story of the game was Henderson, who was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, driving the offense alongside RBIs from Shirey and Spadaro. Smeal was untouchable on the mound, earning the win with a five-inning shutout. She surrendered only two hits and struck out five batters without issuing a single walk. The Lady Knights were aggressive on the base paths, recording eight stolen bases—including two from Paul—while maintaining a flawless defensive record with zero errors. Weekend Statistical Leaders for Nordonia Knights Varsity Sports The weekend’s performances highlighted several key athletes for the Nordonia Hills community to watch. Softball Standouts: Henderson (3 hits), Smeal (5-inning shutout), and Yurmanovich (multi-hit game). Baseball Standouts: Wolff (6 solid innings) and McClelland (2 hits, 1 RBI). The baseball team looks to bounce back at Lake, while the Lady Knights prepare to host North Royalton on Monday. Copyright © 2026 GameChanger Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
