The Nordonia Knights girls flag football team kicked off a big weekend with Senior Night on Friday, hosting a doubleheader against Medina Christian and Highland. The Knights opened the evening on defense against Medina Christian and quickly set the tone. Sophomore Rylee Lowery made key flag pulls to force a quick four-and-out. The offense capitalized as senior quarterback Haydn Paul connected with freshman Ella Spadaro for a long touchdown on the third play of the drive. Paul then found freshman Landry Holtz for the extra point. Nordonia’s defense continued to dominate, with Paul recording an interception on the next Medina Christian possession. On the ensuing play, she handed off to fellow senior Charlotte Naymik, who ran it in for another score. Medina Christian managed to put together a drive, but sophomore Kenzie Ekis made a touchdown-saving flag pull before Lowery added an interception to halt the momentum. Paul responded with another quick strike to Spadaro for a touchdown. The Knights carried that energy into the second half. On the opening drive, Paul hit Holtz on a short pass that turned into a long touchdown. After another defensive stop, a deep pass to Naymik set up a touchdown pass to senior Jillian Rinas, sealing a 32–0 victory. Nordonia stayed hot in the second game against Highland. Starting again on defense, Ekis intercepted an early pass to give the Knights possession. Paul connected with Spadaro for a touchdown and added the extra point to Naymik. After another stop, Paul scored on a run and followed with an extra point pass to Holtz. She later hit Spadaro for another long touchdown and added yet another extra point to Naymik. Highland answered with a touchdown, but Paul and Spadaro connected again in the corner of the end zone, adding both the score and extra point. Paul later recorded another interception and quickly turned it into a touchdown pass to Holtz. Highland made a late push with a touchdown and two-point conversion, but Paul ended the game in dramatic fashion with an interception returned for a touchdown, securing a 40–14 win. Naymik, Holtz, Spadaro, and freshman Nyla Burns contributed key plays throughout the night on offense. Defensively, Lowery, Ekis, and junior Gia Zalick led with critical flag pulls, while junior Alex Giovinozzo and senior Avery Holtz consistently pressured the quarterback. The weekend’s biggest game came at North Royalton, where both teams entered undefeated at 7–0. Once again, the Knights defense delivered early with a quick stop. The offense responded with a strong drive featuring contributions from Naymik, Spadaro, and freshman Ava McLendon, culminating in a touchdown pass to Holtz and an extra point to Spadaro. North Royalton threatened to score, but Paul made a touchdown-saving flag pull at the goal line. Nordonia answered with another efficient drive, as Naymik, Spadaro, and McLendon moved the ball before Paul found Holtz again for a touchdown. Avery Holtz added to the defensive effort with consistent pressure and a sack. McLendon made a key reception on the next drive, setting up another touchdown pass from Paul to Spadaro. Paul later added an interception to regain possession. North Royalton scored its only points on an interception return off of a tipped ball, but the Knights held firm. With North Royalton trying to get on the board again, Paul secured a goal-line interception to seal the 19–6 victory and give Nordonia sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference Orange Division. The Knights will host their final two regular-season games at Nordonia High School this Sunday against Kent at 11 a.m. and Streetsboro at noon.
