Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Rollover on I-76 Ramp in Ravenna

RAVENNA, Ohio — A traffic stop in Ravenna turned into a vehicle pursuit and serious crash early Saturday morning, according to a news release from the Ravenna Police Department. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 16, officers stopped a 2012 BMW SUV on the block of S. Diamond St. for driving and equipment violations. After initial contact with an officer, the driver fled the scene. The Pursuit Officers pursued the vehicle southbound on S. Diamond St. The vehicle turned east on Summit Rd., then south onto S. Prospect St. (SR 44). The pursuit continued south until the driver attempted to use the westbound on-ramp to I-76. The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve, overturned multiple times, and ejected both the driver and a passenger. Both individuals sustained injuries and were transported by EMS to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center. Charges and Investigation The driver was found to have multiple outstanding felony warrants through Cuyahoga County. Charges stemming from this incident include Failure to Comply, a felony of the third degree. The incident remains under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
