Richfield, Bath Historical Societies Honor Revere Students With America 250 Parade
Community — Richfield
A two-year partnership between local historical societies and Revere Schools culminates in a celebratory parade this Wednesday.
RICHFIELD, Ohio — The Richfield Historical Society, in partnership with the Bath Historical Society and Revere Local School District, will host an America 250 Ohio celebratory parade on Wednesday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. The parade route runs along Revere Road and Everett Road in the Bath and Richfield area. The event honors Revere School District students who have spent the past two years learning about and sharing American history through a collaborative program with both historical societies. Students participated in historical lectures and weekly visits to local historic sites each spring. Two Years in the Making The partnership between the historical societies and Revere Schools has been building for two years. Programming has included classroom lectures and on-site visits to local landmarks that reflect the region’s deep historical roots. Richfield served as an active route on the Underground Railroad. Early American villages were established in the area, and evidence of pioneer manufacturing businesses can still be found throughout the community. The parade is designed as a culminating celebration of the students’ hard work and engagement with that history. Ohio Ranks Third in the Nation Ohio holds the No. 3 ranking nationally for recognition and celebration of the Semiquincentennial, also known as the SemiQ-250, which marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. Organizers say Wednesday’s event may be one of the first in what could become a series of parades across the state. According to the Richfield Historical Society, Ohio is also recognized for more than 12 important societal firsts. The region itself holds geological significance, with the farthest extent of the Wisconsin Glacier located in the nearby Ghent area. Parade Route and Parking The parade route starts at Woodsmill and Revere Roads, heads north on Revere Road, passes in front of Revere Middle School, the stadium, and the High School, then turns east onto Everett Road and ends at the Western Reserve Playhouse barn. Organizers are asking the public to enter the parking areas via Everett Road — not Ira Road . Parking will be available at Revere Middle and High Schools, the stadium parking lot, and St. Victor’s Church until roads are closed for the parade. Parking is available all evening at Richfield Elementary School.
