Road Project: Stow Advances Crossroads 91/59 With Pavement and Signal Upgrades
Local Government — Stow
Stow moves forward with the Crossroads 91/59 project. Updates on SR 91 reconstruction, SR 59 signal work, and upcoming milling on Darrow Road.
The Crossroads 91/59 project in Stow is entering a high-activity phase this April as construction crews move into multiple zones to modernize the city’s primary north-south and east-west corridors. Karvo Companies and Perram Electric are currently executing a coordinated schedule involving pavement milling, storm sewer completion, and the installation of advanced traffic signal infrastructure. These updates are part of a multi-million dollar investment aimed at improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety at the critical junction of State Route 91 (Darrow Road) and State Route 59 (Kent Road). Karvo advances State Route 91 reconstruction Significant milestones have been reached on the State Route 91 reconstruction portion of the project. Karvo has successfully completed storm sewer work stretching from south of Graham Road to Kent Road, a vital component for long-term road durability. On the west side of the roadway, landscaping crews are currently active with topsoil placement, seeding, and mulching. Beginning the week of April 13, residents should expect increased activity as crews initiate: Asphalt milling on the west side of SR 91 from Kent Road to the Post Office. Pavement repairs and the placement of intermediate asphalt layers. Adjustments to manhole covers to align with the new road surface. While sidewalk segments on the west side are largely finished, the installation of ADA-compliant ramps is scheduled to follow the completion of upcoming signal work to ensure perfect alignment with new pedestrian crossings. Perram Electric begins SR 59 signal upgrades The State Route 59 signal project is now visibly taking shape as Perram Electric installs new poles and signal heads. Work is currently focused at the primary SR 91/SR 59 intersection. The project aims to replace aging infrastructure with modernized mast arms and advanced vehicle detection technology. Looking ahead to next week, signal installation will move to the intersections of Charring Cross and Hiwood. The city anticipates all signal work to be finalized by this summer, with the final phase of ADA ramp installations following shortly thereafter. This synchronization ensures that the new pedestrian signals are fully integrated with the revised sidewalk layouts. Utility relocations and Crossroads 91/59 timeline The Crossroads 91/59 project also involves extensive coordination with regional utility providers. Enbridge is continuing gas line replacement work south of SR 59 and near the Fishcreek Road intersection, with an expected completion date by the end of April. Simultaneously, Adell Durbin is managing utility pole relocations to accommodate the widened roadway and new signal placement. These coordinated efforts are designed to minimize future disruptions by addressing all subsurface and overhead infrastructure needs before the final paving of the corridors is completed.
