Retail Theft Walmart Sees Multiple Shoplifting Arrests in One Week Macedonia’s Walmart at 8160 Macedonia Commons Blvd. was the site of four separate theft incidents over the span of nine days. On May 22, two Macedonia residents were arrested after a loss prevention specialist detained them in the store’s office. Officers responding that evening found that the pair had manipulated the self-checkout process, with one improperly scanning items while the other concealed merchandise under bags in the cart. They then exited through all points of sale without rendering payment. The total loss was $135.80, with $66.59 in restitution requested for items that could not be resold. Both were charged with misdemeanor theft through Macedonia Mayor’s Court and given a court date of May 28. On May 23, two men from outside the area were stopped in the parking lot after a loss prevention specialist reported they had left the store without paying for items. Officers located their vehicle and detained both occupants. Items recovered included merchandise concealed inside a pillow. The stolen items totaled $289.92, consisting of food and household goods. Restitution of $75.07 was requested. Both were charged with misdemeanor theft and served no-trespass orders. One man admitted to skip scanning items after being advised of his Miranda rights. On May 30, a Macedonia woman was arrested after she and her juvenile daughter were detained by loss prevention following a theft involving skip scanning, ticket switching and unscanned merchandise totaling $111.63. During the investigation, the woman refused to identify herself, ignored repeated requests for her name and date of birth, and continued to act erratically. Officers identified her through a BMV photo match after locating her address through her daughter. She was charged with theft, possessing criminal tools and obstructing official business, all through Macedonia Mayor’s Court, with a court date of June 4. On May 31 into June 1, a woman from Bedford was arrested after loss prevention detained her for failing to scan multiple items at self-checkout and attempting to leave the store. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $96.39. She was charged with misdemeanor theft through Macedonia Mayor’s Court. On May 31, separately, loss prevention reported a disturbance inside the store involving six to seven juveniles who were throwing items around. Officers responded and the juveniles were removed from the store. No arrests were reported in that incident. Three Arrested at Kohl’s After Cart Full of Merchandise Taken On May 26, officers responded to Kohl’s at 8100 Macedonia Commons Blvd. after loss prevention reported a theft in progress. Three individuals were detained in the parking lot after pushing a cart of unpaid merchandise out of the store. One woman was identified as the person who pushed the cart out, while a man had been seen selecting merchandise inside and a second woman accompanied them with an infant. The total value of the stolen goods was $600.95. The woman who pushed the cart was charged with misdemeanor theft. The other two were each charged with complicity to theft, also misdemeanor charges, through Macedonia Mayor’s Court. OVI Arrest Driver Arrested After Cavs Game on I-271 In the early hours of May 26, a Macedonia officer running stationary radar on I-271 near State Route 82 clocked a southbound SUV traveling 84 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. The officer pulled out and observed the vehicle make an abrupt two-lane change before turning onto SR 82. Further observation revealed additional lane violations and an improper wide turn onto SR 8 southbound. The vehicle was also traveling 35 mph in a posted 50 mph zone. Officers stopped the Jeep at East Highland Road. The driver told officers he had been coming home from the Cavaliers game. Officers detected the odor of alcohol, slurred speech and glossy bloodshot eyes. The driver denied consuming alcohol but agreed to field sobriety tests and subsequently failed them. He was placed under arrest for OVI and transported to the Macedonia City Jail. A breath test returned a result of .039 g/210L. A urine sample was sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for further testing. The driver was charged through Macedonia Mayor’s Court with OVI, speeding, marked lane violations and an improper turn, with a court date of May 28. Traffic Offenses Driver Gives False Name During Traffic Stop On May 31, an officer stopped a white Chevrolet Camaro on the Interstate 271 north entrance ramp from SR 8 south for expired plates. The registered owner had no valid driver’s license on record. The driver provided a different name and date of birth during the stop. When officers compared the BMV photo for that name, it did not match the driver. The vehicle’s registered owner’s photo did match. The driver admitted to giving a false identity because he had no valid license.
