Bedford Man Charged in Cleveland Armored Car Robbery That Led to Shootout

Cleveland, OH – An arrest warrant has been issued for Sincere Knights, an 18-year-old from Bedford, who is accused of participating in a daring armored car robbery that erupted into a shootout in Cleveland’s Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood. The incident occurred on April 1, 2024, and led to Knights being charged with aggravated robbery in Cleveland Municipal Court. Knights remains at large.

According to police, Knights was part of a four-person crew that managed to steal a bag of money during the heist. The exact amount of money taken is still unknown. The robbery took place in broad daylight, with the armored car driver being ambushed as he returned to his vehicle on Woodland Avenue after making several pick-ups, including at a CVS, Dunkin’, and Cleveland Clinic’s main campus.

The armored car driver recounted to police that a young man in black clothing and a ski mask emerged from a nearby SUV and pointed a gun with a laser attachment at him. As the driver retreated and dropped the money bag, three more masked assailants appeared, all armed with guns equipped with laser sights. One of the robbers fired at the driver, prompting him to return fire with his own handgun, discharging five or six rounds.

Despite the intense exchange of gunfire, the driver was uninjured, though visibly shaken and short of breath when police arrived. He initially feared he had been shot and had officers inspect him, but he was unharmed.

Surveillance footage corroborated the driver’s account, showing the suspects’ SUV tailing the armored car for about a mile and a half before the robbery. This footage helped police identify the vehicle used by the suspects.

Another suspect, 19-year-old Kahil Berry from Cleveland, was arrested on the day of the incident. Berry was indicted last month on multiple felony charges, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault. He pleaded not guilty and is currently held on a $50,000 bond. Berry also faces charges in a separate case involving receiving stolen property and possessing criminal tools from an incident last year.

Authorities continue to search for Knights, who does not yet have legal representation. The community is urged to report any information regarding his whereabouts to local law enforcement.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling armed robberies and ensuring public safety. The Cleveland Police Department continues its investigation, seeking to bring all involved parties to justice and prevent such brazen criminal acts in the future.
