A new marijuana dispensary has opened at the location of a former BP gas station in Streetsboro. AYR Wellness, a Florida-based company, has launched its first Streetsboro dispensary at 9800 State Route 14. The store is located in a shopping center adjacent to Walmart and held its grand opening celebration on April 4.
Business Details
This marks the fifth dispensary AYR Wellness has opened in Ohio, with plans to expand to at least eight locations statewide by the end of 2025. The new dispensary serves both medical and recreational marijuana customers, with medical customers being given priority service.
Ariana Ehrhart, the store manager and Garrettsville native, said the location has hired 18 employees, including some with previous industry experience. The dispensary operates seven days a week with extended hours: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Local Context
A second marijuana dispensary, The Mothership Cannabis Dispensary, is preparing to open nearby at 9156 State Route 14, about 1.8 miles from AYR’s location. The Mothership is backed by Wellspring Fields, a marijuana cultivation facility based in Ravenna Township.
Once both dispensaries are operational, Streetsboro will have reached its local dispensary cap, as Ohio law requires at least a one-mile buffer between marijuana retailers.
The path to establishing marijuana businesses in Streetsboro wasn’t straightforward. In 2023, following Ohio voters’ approval of recreational marijuana, Streetsboro’s Planning Commission updated zoning rules. Initially, the city proposed restrictions that would only allow dispensaries in stand-alone buildings, which would have limited viable commercial locations. However, City Council amended the ordinance, with Councilman Justin Ring noting that recreational marijuana had passed in every precinct in Streetsboro, and excessive zoning limits would contradict voters’ wishes.
Northfield Village Development
Klutch Cannabis is preparing to open a new dispensary in Northfield Village. The location at 10650 Northfield Road will be situated across from the MGM Northfield Park Racino and is strategically positioned to serve northern Summit County and surrounding communities.
Klutch Cannabis, which has headquarters, cultivation, and processing facilities in Akron, won the right to open this dispensary following a settlement with the state of Ohio that resolved years of litigation. The company expects the Northfield Village location to be operational in the first quarter of 2025.
As part of its expansion plans, Klutch is also rebranding its existing dispensaries from “The Citizen by Klutch” to simply “Klutch Cannabis.”
