SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro has announced a special promotion for National Pet Month that will make adding a furry friend to your family more affordable than ever.
Throughout the month of May, dog adoption fees at Summit County Animal Control will be reduced to just $28, a significant discount from the regular $94 fee. This reduced cost still includes all the comprehensive care each animal receives—microchipping, complete veterinary services (bloodwork, flea treatments, intestinal de-worming, spay/neuter surgeries, and vaccinations), plus each adopted dog comes with a 2025 Summit County Dog License included.
The benefits of pet ownership extend far beyond companionship, according to health research highlighted by Executive Shapiro’s office. “Interacting with animals is good for our health beyond just the love and compassion they bring out in us,” notes the announcement. “This emotional support and comfort help lower our cortisol levels and blood pressure!”
County officials hope the reduced fees will encourage more residents to experience these benefits firsthand while providing loving homes to animals in need.
Potential adopters can browse available pets online through Summit County Animal Control’s Facebook page or their 24 Pet Connect platform. Interested residents may schedule appointments by calling 330-643-2845 or visit the facility during its operating hours:
- Weekdays: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturdays: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Sundays: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Summit County Animal Control facility is located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron. The special pricing will be available from May 1 through May 31.
