Vandalism Forces Partial Closure of Popular SKiP Playground Restrooms

Community Patience Requested as Repairs Underway Following Recent Incident

The popular SKiP Playground in Stow is facing challenges after a recent vandalism incident damaged the facility’s restrooms, according to an announcement from Stow Parks & Recreation.

The vandalism has resulted in only one restroom remaining operational at the playground, with the sink in that restroom currently out of service. Parks officials have installed hand sanitizer stations for visitors while repair work is in progress.

“We’re working diligently to restore full service as quickly as possible,” a representative from Stow Parks & Recreation said. “This playground is a beloved community gathering place, and we’re disappointed to see it damaged.”

SKiP Playground, which reopened in July 2023 after a complete rebuild, features numerous amenities including a zipline, rope swing, obstacle course, accessible swings, carousel, and musical instruments. The playground has been extremely popular since its reopening, breaking attendance records according to city officials.

This is not the first instance of playground vandalism in the Northeast Ohio region in recent months. In February, playgrounds in Warren County were targeted with motor oil damage that affected slides, swings, and temporary restrooms. Similarly, restroom facilities at Quincy Village Park were vandalized in April, with damage including a broken sink and faucet.

The Stow Parks & Recreation Department encourages community members to report any suspicious activity to local authorities as they work to maintain the playground as a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors.

No information has been released about potential suspects or the exact cost of repairs for the damaged facilities.
