The Northeast Ohio Pollinator Festival is set to return to Conneaut on June 14 at the Gateway Outdoor Learning Center, located at 230 Gateway Ave.
This year’s festival will feature both morning and afternoon sessions. The morning program begins at 8:30 a.m. and costs $15 to attend. It will showcase two featured speakers: Chris Kline, Butterfly Ridge Butterfly Conservation Director, and conservation educator Danae Wolfe. Tickets for this educational session are available for purchase at the Gateway Outdoor Learning Center.
The main festival kicks off at noon and is free to the public. Visitors can expect plant vendors, conservation education displays, and a variety of resources related to pollination. The event aims to promote awareness about declining pollinator populations and encourage practical solutions for supporting these essential species.
The Northeast Ohio Pollinators Society, which covers 17 counties in Ohio and extends into Western Pennsylvania, is sponsoring the event. The organization focuses on conservation efforts and promoting the use of native plants to support local ecosystems.
According to conservationists involved with the festival, pollinator numbers have been declining alongside other insect species, primarily due to habitat loss. This decline poses potential threats to the global food supply, making conservation efforts increasingly important.
The festival provides resources for people in various living situations, from apartment dwellers to large property owners, offering practical ways to support pollinators regardless of available space.
Previous festivals have included guided hikes, children’s activities, native wildflower giveaways, and live music. The event continues to grow each year as interest in environmental conservation expands throughout Northeast Ohio.
