AKRON – A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Akron late Sunday night, marking another tragic instance of gun violence in the city.
The shooting occurred at the McDonald’s location on East Avenue, where police responded after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with fatal gunshot wounds.
“This morning a young man lost his life to gun violence; a tragedy has left a family grieving. The Akron Police Department is committed to doing everything in our power to bring justice in this case. Our detectives are already working to gather evidence and investigate every lead,” stated the Akron Police Department in an official release.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity as they work to notify family members. Details about what led to the shooting remain limited as investigators continue to piece together the events of the night.
The police department has emphasized the importance of community assistance in solving this crime, particularly given the public location where it occurred.
“What is equally important is that we come together as a community and take a stand against violence. There were many people at the scene of this senseless crime. We are asking anyone who saw something or knows something to come forward. Your voice could be the one to help bring healing, answers, and accountability,” the statement continued.
This incident adds to the growing concern about gun violence in Akron, with multiple homicides reported in the city this year.
The McDonald’s location was temporarily closed as investigators processed the scene, collecting evidence that may help identify those responsible for the shooting.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Akron Police Department or Summit County Crimestoppers, where tips can be provided anonymously.
